The media is biased

All I have heard over the past 3 months is America has elected its first black president. Really? Let's look at this a bit deeper.

Obama is not the first black president. Obama is half black and half white. Ok, so he's the first inter-racial president. Well, let's look a bit deeper. Obama has said many times the people who raised him were his mother and maternal grandmother. His dad ran off when he was young. His mother and maternal grandmother were both white. Obama had a white upbringing, white education, and white relatives.

Why isn't the media reporting that Obama is the first inter-racial president? That is the truth not that he is the first black president. Oh well, the media reports what it wants. It's no secret the media is biased towards the left.

I know his grandmother and mother are both looking down at him today and are very proud of him.

And it begins...

Last Monday, we started our training for the 1/2 marathon. Since HCA is paying for most of our entry fee, a group of people from work decided we would run. This will be the second time for me to run the 1/2 marathon.

Well, last Monday it rained and rained and rained and then rained some more but it did not deter us from our first day of training. We were soaking wet by the time we finished not because it rained hard but because it was dark outside and we couldn't see all the puddles. If there was a puddle, we found it and stepped in it.

We begin our second week of training today. It's not raining but it is cold, cold, cold! Oh well, i guess we just have to bundle up.

Weekend

This weekend Keith and I had our engagment pictures made, finally. It was raining so we made the pictures indoor. We haven't seen them yet but hopefully they turned out well. Wedding plans are coming right along. This past weekend we picked out the tuxedos for the groomsmen, my dad, ring bearer, and preacher. The wedding is only 4 months and 2 weeks away. It will be here before I know it.

Kevin was also in town visiting some friends but he stayed at my house. I always love spending time with Kevin because he is so stinkin' funny. I wish he lived in Nashville.

Below is a picture of Kevin and Keith. Keith put on part of my halloween costume (the hat and mustache and Kevin took another mustache and trimmed it). Needless to say, I had my hands full this weekend. You know, laughing only encourages them.

Happy Birthday Elvis

Today is Elvis' birthday and to celebrate his birthday I thought I'd share a few family stories about Elvis (everyone from Memphis has an "Elvis Story")

My Uncle Bob actually grew up with Elvis so these stories come from him.

Story #1:

My uncle's parents worked all the time which meant Uncle Bob was home by himself a lot when he was growing up. Uncle Bob and Elvis lived in the same project in Memphis called Lauderdale Courts (located next door to St. Jude). To be a bit more specific, Uncle Bob lived in the apartment above Elvis and his family. Because Uncle Bob was usually home by himself around dinner time Elvis would usually stick his head out the window and yell upstairs, "Robert! Robert! Hey, do you want to come down here and have dinner with us?" Being a kid, alone and hungry, Uncle Bob normally would say yes. My Uncle Bob had dinner with Elvis on a regular basis when they were growing up.

Story #2:

The boys in the neighborhood had this little 5 and Dime place they would hangout at after school and one day Uncle Bob walked into to the little restaurant to meet up with Elvis and the gang. When Uncle Bob walked in Elvis was sitting on the table playing his guitar. Teasing each other like boys do my uncle said, "Elvis, it's a shame you won't make a living playing the guitar."

I don't think I have ever heard my dad laugh as hard as he did the first time Uncle Bob told us this story.

Story #3:

Uncle Bob followed Elvis' career way before he became famous and obviously followed it when he became the King of Rock 'n Roll. One day my uncle was out driving around and found himself close to Graceland so he thought he'd stop in a catch up with Elvis. When he got close to the house Elvis' dad was outside. His dad recognized Uncle Bob and told him Elvis would be down in a minute. Since they were outside Elvis dad said, "Robert, while we wait on Elvis have a seat." His dad pointed to Elvis' purple Cadillac. My uncle actually sat in Elvis' Cadillac.

Story #4:

One day while Uncle Bob was walking around downtown Memphis a limo pulled up beside him and Elvis rolled down the window, shook Uncle Bob's hand, asked how he was doing and they talked for a few minutes. When ever Elvis would see Uncle Bob he always made sure he stopped and talked with him.

Story #5:
My uncle worked at one of the gift shops/collector shops across the street from Graceland. Uncle Bob got word that one of Elvis' fans who had painted his van with Elvis pictures and who had basically turned his van into an Elvis shrine was going to bring it by Graceland for Elvis to see. So, on that day when my uncle went to work he took his home movie camera to film it. Uncle Bod looked across the road and noticed an ambulance in the driveway. He quickly got his camera and filmed. He thought something had happened to Elvis' dad since he was there. He filmed the paramedics wheeling a covered body from Graceland to the ambulance. The year was 1977, the day was August 16. My uncle has on film the paramedics taking Elvis' body from Graceland to the ambulance.

Uncle Bob died a few years ago so there is no telling what other stories he had about Elvis. My brother spent a lot of time with Uncle Bob so I'm sure Kevin knows more Elvis stories. I'm sure today Uncle Bob and Elvis are celebrating Elvis' birthday and telling stories of "back in the day."

Say It Ain't So!!

HOWSYOMOMANEM are the 2008 Bartlett City Champions. I can't believe it, i really can't believe it. They won the tournament. I have no idea how they did it but i guess they peaked just at the right time. If you want to know how bad they are read an earlier post about them. Congratulations guys!

Nothing New

Just thought I'd should post something since it's been a while. I don't really have anything to post since nothing new has happened. Wedding plans are coming along well. The bridesmaids have ordered their dresses, i have my dress at home, the church and reception site have been booked as well as the dj, photographer, and honeymoon. We are going to Jamaica - Sandals Royal Caribbean. My parents and Kevin and Keith's parents were in town this past weekend. They all got to meet each other and it went well. We all went to ICE last weekend (this was Keith and I's second time) and i'll post pictures from that trip later on. That's it for now.

What Now?

Now that the USSA, er I mean USA has elected it's first black president what will Rev. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do? Will they be in the unemployment line? The one thing that got them up every morning, the one thing that motivated them was the fact that the US is racist (i.e. Hurricane Katrina and President Bush hates black people). Now Sen. Obama is in office what will Jesse and Al complain about now? Since I make well below the $250,000 threshhold and both of them make more than that I'm signing up to have their wealth redistributed to me.
